Magazine Analysis (double page spread)
Masthead
I have placed the masthead, ‘Role’, on the front cover of the magazine and also on the Contents page, so that it is like a signature. In this way the readers of the magazine see the name of the magazine repeatedly and it etches into their subconscious so that when they see the magazine on a magazine stand or see an advertisement for it online they identify with it immediately.
Structure of the Double page spread
My double page layout fits the conventions of a magazine spread, which is two facing pages being the main unit of design.
My double page layout aims to be a symmetrical mirror image spread, with matching margins, colour scheme, background picture and columns.
The way in which I have structured the double page spread is to consider the placement of the photographs, the title of the article, the colour scheme and the style of the article, being an interview so that it engages the reader.
Font
This has been used so there is a clear text that is easily readable. This style of font suits the interview style and the white colour of the font clearly stands out from the background dusky pink and medium green. The article title is featured in a big, black, bold font, In order to stand out and to also, at the same time, mute the colour scheme of the page, as the double page spread is very colourful already.
Images
The images relate to the interview and present different fashion looks for the reader to view. Each of the images has a theme and is named according to its theme, with the message of non-gender specific also being reinforced, with gender stereotypical colours worn by both males and females.
Mise-en-scene- The use of clothing has been used to create spring fashion trends to appeal to both the male and female target audience of the 16-25 age group.
Conclusion
I have created a double page spread that includes all of the features that appeal to my target audience and that engage the reader, by presenting the information as an interview. Presentation was of utmost importance in the production of the double page spread and so I chose the colour palette carefully so that the colours contrasted and the columns were clearly delineated.
